Night Sky
by Jolene Perry

After losing Sarah, the friend he’s loved, to some other guy, Jameson meets Sky. Her Native American roots, fluid movements, and need for brutal honesty become addictive fast. This is good. Jameson needs distraction – his dad leaves for another woman, his mom’s walking around like a zombie, and Sarah’s new boyfriend can’t keep his hands off of her.

As he spends time with Sky and learns about her village, her totems, and her friends with drums - she's way more than distraction. Jameson's falling for her fast.

But Sky’s need for honesty somehow doesn’t extend to her life story – and Jameson just may need more than his new girl to keep him distracted from the disaster of his senior year.

Clarissa the Muse.

2. Why is he/she your favorite?
She’s spunky and knows how to make things happen.

3. How did you come to create him/her?
I’m not sure if I really created her, she just came in my head. I think there’s actually a lot of me in her.

4. When did he/she first enter your mind?
Somewhere between ’01 and ’03 when I was a member of an RPG group and we were having trouble coming up with story ideas.

5. Where was he/she given life in the creative process?
The story was very spontaneous and she was there from the first line.

6. What do like the most about him/her and what do you dislike the most about him/her?
I like her sense of humor and take charge attitude. She can be a bit arrogant and impulsive, though.

About the Book

Muses are often called uncooperative, grumpy, lazy beings who abandon a writer when they're needed most. Now, one of them has decided to tell their side of the story. Meet Clarissa, a muse who has spent centuries trying to inspire artists who sometimes are too stubborn to listen to her.

What is your muse trying to say to you? Clarissa might just be able to answer that...

Catherine Lanigan - Adventures of Lilli and Zane: The Golden Flute - Author Interview

Author Interview

1. Who is your favorite character?
Lilli Mitchell the heroine of my young adult series The Adventures of Lilli and Zane: The Golden Flute.

2. Why is she your favorite character?
Lilli has a sense of adventure and curiosity about the entire world, universe and constantly wants to know the answers to life. Why are we here? Where did we come from? She is also incredibly gifted with several PSI powers. She is able to talk to her dead mother who visits here in dreams and in waking moments. She has an emerging psychic talent that she must come to grips with as she grows older. This is not magic, it is a human talent that can be honed and used as the tool to deal with dangers in life.

3. How did you come to create her?
Lilli is me at her age. I wanted to be a journalist and go around the world and interview fascinating people. I also wanted to be an archeologist when I was in elementary school. My first adult book I ever read was Kon-Tiki, Thor Heyerdahl’s story of his adventure on a raft across the Pacific Ocean to prove the origin of the race of peoples who populated Easter Island. I wanted to be that kind of adventurer on raft, pitted against the forces of the vast world.

4. When did she first enter your mind?
Lilli and Zane are the characters from my romance book At Long Last Love which I wrote in 1992. While I was working on her back story, I knew I wanted to write a book or books about Lilli when she was only thirteen or fourteen. It was then that the idea for the series was born.

5. Where was she give life in the creative process?
Most of my characters come to me in dreams or at night when I can’t sleep. Some of them give me their names. Some of them appear like visions and ask me to tell their stories. I may be pretty kooky, but my characters are important people and neither they nor I rest until their story is finished.

6. What do you like most about her? What do you like least?
I love Lilli’s warmth. Yes, she is creative and curious and bold and audacious, but she is loving and thoughtful to Zane and Teddy. She is respectful to her nanny, Nancy. She misses her • • • mother, but she allows Nancy to treat her as her own child. She adores her father and she has a loving relationship with her father. She is protective of her father because he can be self-absorbed in his archeological work and forget to eat or sleep. Mostly, he forgets about Lilli, though he loves her beyond measure. What I don’t like about Lilli is that she is a vegetarian and she eats far too healthy for my tastes. She is very precise about things. I’m messier than she is.

About the Book

Teen treasure hunters, Lilli Mitchell, Zane McAllister and his techno-wizard, younger brother, Teddy, are coming into awareness of their incredible PSI powers as they comb Europe searching for seven ancient enormous jewels. Powerful artifacts that will help them battle the evil and dangerous Bishop Carrington, a human monster who is determined to raise the lost continent of Atlantis from the blackest depths of the ocean. A devastating act which will destroy most of the surface of the earth.

Waiting on Wednesday

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Color of Snow
by Brenda Stanley
Publication Date: June 1, 2012

When a beautiful 16-year-old girl named Sophie is found sequestered in a cage-like room in a rundown house in the desolate hills of Arbon Valley, Idaho, the entire community is shocked to learn she is the legendary Callidora--a baby girl who was kidnapped from her crib almost seventeen years ago and canonized in missing posters with portraits of what the fabled girl might resemble. Authorities soon learn that the cage was there to protect people from Sophie, because her biological father believes she is cursed.

Sophie is discovered after the man she knows as Papa, shoots and injures Damien, a young man who is trying to rescue her. Now, unsocialized and thrust into the world, and into a family she has never met, Sophie must decide whether she should accept her Papa’s claims that she is cursed and he was only trying to protect others, or trust the new people in her life who have their own agendas. Guided by a wise cousin, Sophie realizes that her most heartbreaking challenge is to decide if her love for Damien will destroy him like her Papa claims, or free her from past demons that haunt her mind.

Ashley Mackler-Paternostro - The Milestone Tapes - Author Interview & Giveaway

Author Interview

1. Who is your favorite character?
I absolutely adore Jenna Chamberland.

2. Why is he/she your favorite?
You know, the reasons she’s my favorite is a very layered answer. I guess, from the very start, her voice was the clearest to me. This is her family, her story. Although I knew I was writing The Milestone Tapes, this novel was always Jenna journey, she was lingering in every phrase even when she wasn’t the primary voice anymore.

3. How did you come to create him/her?
I don’t think I created Jenna, I think Jenna created herself. As a first time novelist, this experience was incredibly strange ... but Jenna took over. Any thoughts I had on her life or story took a backseat to her own free will.

4. When did he/she first enter your mind?
When I conceived the novel she was there. There had to be, at the center, this brave soul who would be strong enough to face the end without thinking only of herself ... she had to be able to get beyond that small framed looking-glass. As a writer, I can tell you, a lot of characters live in our heads and the sad truth is we won’t be able to tell each of their stories in our lifetimes ... we have to play favorites.

5. Where was he/she given life in the creative process?
The Milestone Tapes begins with a prologue. And it was then that she came to life and took the helm of this ship. Prologues aren’t always the best place to start a book, but I knew that it was where this story began. She and I worked that out, and then worked backwards. I always thought maybe I’d delete it ... but I never found that strength. It was her coming into crisp focus for me and there is no undoing that.

6. What do like the most about him/her and what do you dislike the most about him/her?
I love the way Jenna loves. She isn’t a small woman in any way. She loves big, believes big, fights big. It’s an admirable quality and it works in her favor almost all the time. I guess you could say that the way she looks at the world is beautiful. Dislikes ... Jenna can be, at times, a little too selfless. I only realized this in the second edit as I was reading through some of the conversations she has with her family ... sometimes I wish she’d be a little more “what about me?!” ... but that’s just not her nature.

About the Book

Jenna Chamberland is in the last stages of her life. After a battle with breast cancer that has spanned out three years behind them, her life is ending. Jenna is now faced with finding away to leave hope behind. She knows what’s coming for her family; her husband Gabe will be left alone to raise their daughter, Mia and Mia will be cast into the world without a mother. Jenna’s now tasked with chopping life down to 10 tapes, to pass on her stories and history and memories and hope. Knowing someday Mia will take from them what she needs to know. It’s her final act as mother, hedging her bets on her daughter.

Years later the story reemerges as Mia is sixteen. Her life, again, is changing all around her, from every direction. All she wants is her mom. Jenna reemerges on the thin film of the cassettes to guide her daughter gently into a dauntless future.

The book begs the question, can the love between a parent and child remain when life no longer does?
