Author Interview
1. Who is your favorite character?
So tough! I definitely
fell in love with my two leading men, but I have to say my main
character Kira
has got to be my favorite!
2. Why is he/she your favorite?
I really wanted to create
a strong, relatable female lead and I think I did that in Kira.
She is thrown
so many curveballs and her life is turned completely upside
down, but she
manages to keep it together and persevere. I love a girl who can
kick some ass
and doesn’t let the boys fight her battles!
3. How did you come to create him/her?
I was actually walking on
the beach one day, basking in the sun, when I started to think
about how cool
it would be to create a paranormal being that was somehow
connected to the sun.
So, I first toyed with the idea of this new species and then
different plot
ideas came to me. Soon enough Kira popped into my head! I don’t
want to give
too much away, so I’ll stop there!
4. When did he/she first enter your mind?
Initially, I thought of
Kira just as a girl with this amazing power. But soon enough,
she blossomed
into so much more. I really wanted a main character who would
let me explore a
ton of different themes – forbidden love, fierce friendship,
complete loss and
absolute power, to name a few. Kira is put through the ringer in
my books, and
as the series continues, she will become more self-assured and
more powerful.
5. Where was he/she given life in the creative process?
In the beginning of Ignite, Kira is a girl just like any
other – new to school,
looking for friends and curious about a boy she is crushing on.
For me, her
character really came to life when she discovers her powers. Her
personality
really stands out as she struggles to cope with her new life and
learns about
herself in the process.
6. What do like the most about him/her and what do you
dislike
the most about him/her?
I already said I love her
strength, but I admire her faith as well. She believes in people
– both her
friends and her love interest – and really wants to see the best
in those she
loves. As for something I dislike… it’s so hard to choose! I
don’t think there
is anything I personally dislike about her, but her weakness is
probably her
stubbornness – once an idea or plan enters her mind, she won’t
change it for
anyone! Sometimes that gets her in trouble, but other times it
makes her
unstoppable.
