1. Who is your favorite character?
My favorite character from GPS WITH BENEFITS is the GPS. This device is a character in itself; she talks, she reacts and she’s aware of her surroundings.

2. Why is he/she your favorite?
Because she’s unusual, sexy, unpredictable and funny. I’m not going to say anything more in order not to spoil it for you, but she does things you wouldn’t expect from a GPS.

3. How did you come to create him/her?
The inspiration for GPS WITH BENEFITS came to me when I was in the car with a friend. We made jokes about the GPS device and imagined what it would be like if the GPS was actually alive. I immediately knew that these ideas could be turned into a hilarious story that will have you laughing out loud.

4. When did he/she first enter your mind?
GPS WITH BENEFITS was easy to write. I've never wrote anything that quickly and that easily before. Most of the story was already in my head when I started to write. I just had to get it down on paper.

5. Where was he/she given life in the creative process?
What I like about the GPS character is that she’s unusual, sexy, unpredictable and funny. What I dislike about her is her jealous and obsessive behavior. She doesn’t know her limits.

6. What do you like the most about him/her and what do you dislike the most about him/her?
A womanizer purchases a new GPS device, but has no idea his buying one with a mind of ‘her’ own.

Author Interview

1. Who is your favorite character?
My favorite character in A Good Man is definitely the old, arthritic vampire Louis Caron.

2. Why is he/she your favorite?
Because we might recognize a lot of ourselves and others in Louis - especially his insecurities and feelings of guilt. Louis is also quite original as we don't usually see old, Botoxed vampires with arthritis.

3. How did you come to create him/her?
In 2010, my short story The Strangers Outside was brought to the screen. The main actor in that film, Pierre Lekeux, is also a producer. He loved what I had done with The Strangers Outside and he asked if I’d agree to write their next feature film. He wanted to jump onto the wagon of the current vampire-craze and he thought that I was the ideal person to bring this project to life. The only directions I had were that it had to be about a vampire and that I had to write it with certain actors in mind. I imagined what these actors would be like if they were vampires and what their worst fate would be.

4. When did he/she first enter your mind?
Louis Caron, was obviously based on Pierre Lekeux, the actor who is going to play the part in the movie adaptation. I observed him in real life and in his interactions with women and it really helped me in creating an original vampire character. I particularly loved the idea of an old vampire who suffers from arthritis and insecurities and who thinks that having a good reason for sinful behavior makes everything ok.

5. Where was he/she given life in the creative process?
A Good Man is a character driven story, so everything started and evolved with Louis.

6. What do you like the most about him/her and what do you dislike the most about him/her?
A lot of people see Louis Caron as a monster because he's a vampire and has to kill, but if you look at who he really is, you notice that he is a better man than most people we know. Most of us kill animals, because we like the taste of it. Louis kills people because he doesn't have a choice (if he doesn't drink the blood of humans, he will live eternally in a plant-like state). Louis is very much aware of what is good and what is not and he tries to make the best choices whenever he can. That's something we can't say about most humans.
